The Grand Duke was born on 5 January 1921 at the Château de Colmar-Berg.

He is the eldest son of Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix of Bourbon of Parma. He was the sovereign of the Luxembourg people from 1964 to 2000, before abdicating in favor of his son Henri. He was married from 1953 to 2005 to Joséphine Charlotte of Belgium, until the death of the Grand Duchess.

To get an idea of his person, it is enough to remember the Second World War, during which Jean fought alongside Allied forces, specifically within the Irish Guards. On September 10, 1944, the one who was then only Prince Jean arrived with his father Prince Felix, among the first Allied troops, in Luxembourg. He continued to struggle against Nazi Germany and is definitely income in the Grand Duchy April 14, 1945.

The former Grand Duke Jean now has five children, 22 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren:

Marie Astrid (1954) married Archduke Carl Christian von Habsburg. They have five children: Marie Christine (1983), Imre (1985), Christoph (1988), Alexander (1990), Gabriella (1994).
Marie Christine married Count Rodolphe of Limburg-Stirum. Their children are: Leopold (2011), Constantin (2013) and Gabriel (2016).
Imre and his wife Kathleen Walker had two daughters: Maria Stella (2013) and Magdalena (2016).
Christoph married Adelaïde Drapé-Frisch. The couple gave birth to little Katarina (2014).

The current Grand Duke Henri (1955) and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa Mestre have also five children: Guillaume (1981), Felix (1984), Louis (1986), Alexandra (1991) and Sebastian (1992).
Louis married Tessy Anthony, a marriage who in the meantime gave birth to two sons: Gabriel (2006) and Noah (2007).
The Crown Prince married to the Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy in October 2012.
Felix and his wife Claire Lademacher had two children: Amalia (2014) and Liam (2016).

Jean (1957) and his first wife Hélène Vestur have four children, Marie-Gabrielle (1986), Constantine (1988), Wenceslas (1990) and Carl Johann (1992). In 2009, he married Diane de Guerre, his second wife.

The twin sister of Jean, Margaretha (1957), married Prince Nicolas of Liechtenstein. Their four children are named Léopold Emmanuel (1984 +), Marie Annunciata (1985), Marie Astrid (1987) and Josef Emmanuel (1989).

The younger child is Guillaume (1963), who also have four children with his wife Sibilla Weiller Paul-Louis (1998), Leopold (2000), Charlotte (2000) and Jean (2004).
